Communicating with a deaf person may take a little longer since they need to put in ten times the effort to understand. It's essential to be patient and avoid interrupting. Respect their pace and give them the time they need to process and respond. Before speaking, ensure you have the person's attention. Face the person directly when speaking to help them read your lips. Speak clearly and at a moderate volume to avoid shouting, which doesn't help in most cases and can be uncomfortable. 🕒🤫👄
As a hard of hearing person myself, I've firsthand experience with the fact that communication, in all its forms, does indeed require a great deal of patience. 👂❤️ It's a reminder that sometimes people can't easily discern whether our disability is visible or not.
